A Clinical Study on Cerebrovascular Accidents

Abstract
Two hundreds and seventy-nine cases of cerebrovascular accidents admitted at Chungnam - University Hospital were studied clinically for three years from January, 1975 to December, 1977.
The diagnostic criteria of cerebrovascular accident is was based on the Okinaka¢¥s modification of Millikan¢¥s Classification.
Following results were obtained;
1. Cerebrovascular accidents were found in 6.74% of total medical inpatients, and there was no significant yearly difference in incidence.
2. Among the 279 cases, cerebral homorrhage were 40.14%, cerebral thrombosis 30.47%, cerebral
embolism 5.38%, subarachnoid hemorrhag 16.49%, transient ischemic attack 4.67% and hypertensive encephalo pathy were 2.87%.
3, The sixth decade was the most prevalent age group, the seasonal incidence was in order of frequency of Summer, Spring, Autumn and Winter.
4. The over-all mortality of cerebrovascular accidents was 43.73%. Cerebral hemorrhage revealed the highest mortal it Y(72. 32%).
5. Hypertension was found in 70.25% of total cases.
6, Patients admittd with recurrent attack were 18.41% of total cases. Among the recurrence, the 2nd attack was most frequent and occupied 15, 48%.
7. Hypertensive retinopathy by Keith-Wagener classification was found in 86.79% of total cases. Grade ll was most frequent and occupied 45.28%. Electrocardiographic findings were abnormal in 68.31%.
8. Albuminuria was found in 39.91%, and leukocytosis (¢¥over 12000/mm3) was in 48.72%. The most frequent range of serum cholesterol level was from 151 to 250mg% and occupied 34.55% of total cases.
